Profile:

George Byrns is an Associate Professor in Environmental Health in the Department of Health Sciences. Dr. Byrns teaches the following courses: Environmental Health in the 21st Century, Control of Institutional Environments, Epidemiology, and Industrial Hygiene. Prior to coming to Illinois State University in 1999, he had a 25 year career as a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Public Health Service and retired with a rank of 06. During most of that time, he worked in environmental and occupational health with the Indian Health Service. Prior to retirement, he managed the occupational safety and health program for that federal agency. His current research involves prevention of back pain in health care personnel in hospitals and nursing homes.
