Anjie Almeda is the Academic Advisor for the Department of Health Sciences and provides advising for the students in Clinical Laboratory Science, Environmental Health, Health Education, Health Information Management, and Safety. Anjie is an alumna of the Health Sciences Department, with a Bachelor’s degree in Community Health Education. She also holds a Master’s degree in Counselor Education. Prior to coming to Illinois State University, Anjie worked as therapist assisting families, couples and individuals. She also coordinated a childhood sexual abuse prevention program in the local public schools. She brings her skills as an empathic listener and an active problem solver to the advising role and is a strong advocate for her students. At the same time, she encourages them to take responsibility for their own education and to develop the skills they need to succeed as young professionals. Among Anjie’s interests is the assistance of students who are struggling academically, professional growth and development of academic advisors on campus, and taking an active role in the national professional organization for academic advisors.
