American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA)

Student Chapter

The student chapter of AIHA is an officially recognized local section of the national office of AIHA . Participation in this organization enables the student to visit work sites to learn more about the jobs of industrial hygiene professionals, or to hear guest speakers sharing their experiences with the audience. The Illinois State student chapter is sponsored by two professional associations, the Chicago AIHA Chapter and the Prairie AIHA Chapter. These professional organizations have provided stipends to Illinois State students for such activities as attendance at national conferences or local field trips.

Guest speakers discuss their profession and job opportunities with SEHA and AIHA members monthly during the Fall and Spring semesters. Students learn networking skills on professional and social levels while learning about potential careers in the environmental health profession. Since 1992, AIHA has sponsored the campus Earth Day celebration. During this time, AIHA has integrated and educated the University and greater community in this event through a celebration on the Quad, and nationally and internationally known guest speakers. More information on Earth Day is available at The Green Team Web site. SEHA is open to all Environmental Health Program majors and other interested students. For more information, contact the SEHA faculty advisor or Environmental Health Program Director.
