The Illinois State University Society of Clinical Laboratory Science (SCLS) was organized in 1972. Its purpose is to enhance student development toward professional goals, attitudes and relationships. It is a fee supported student organization at Illinois State; membership is open to students in all majors. Membership provides opportunities to develop networking skills, leadership skills and to broaden interests.
The Society meets approximately once each month, but other activities or special programs are occasionally planned between meetings. Activities include speakers on clinical laboratory issues or concerns, social events (pizza parties, cookouts) and fund-raising activities (bake sales, candy sales). The Society sponsors an Open House for high school students. During National Laboratory week special activities are planned by the Society, which promote the visibility of clinical laboratory science.
