Academic Advising
Advising in the Department of Health Sciences at Illinois State University is a partnership. Through advising, you will plan, obtain, and evaluate your education while navigating the university's resources. I will assist you, guide you, and advocate for you during this process.
I am responsible for the following:
- designing and delivering advising activities which will benefit you personally.
- serving as a guide while you learn to navigate the expectations and requirements for a Bachelor's degree.
- acting as your advocate to access resources on campus.
- encouraging you to develop to your full potential as a young professional.
You are responsible for the following:
- managing your own learning.
- setting and assessing educational goals.
- actively taking part in advising activities and utilizing the guidance I provide.
I expect that you will become a competent learner. This will be apparent by your ability to:
- create an appropriate plan of study including major requirements, general education, and graduation requirements.
- use the Academic Progress Summary and Degree Audit to make decisions regarding your plan of study.
- demonstrate through action and discussion an understanding of pertinent university policies (withdrawal, repeat, transfer, appeals, etc.).
- demonstrate, through consistent utilization, familiarity with a broad array of campus resources, both in Academic Affairs and in Student Affairs.
- demonstrate, through behavior and speech, personal values that are consistent with the broadly educated, intentional learner (appreciation of learning, professionalism, civic engagement, and an appreciation for diversity).
